Pleading Eyes

Inspired by: “We are all universes connected to the beginning of time”
Artist: Ellen Sim

We’d once show love and affection,
Through hugs and connection,
And not just random faces on screens.

She’s trying so hard to understand
All this technology, now at hand,
And what this new experience means.

She’s longing for family, for laughter, for tears,
Feasting, rejoicing, alleviating little one’s fears.
The bleakness in her tired eyes says it all.

She doesn’t want you to text message,
She doesn’t need your awkward screen visage.
Please just pick up your phone and call.

She seeks her lost brightness,
Lost warmth, and lost lightness,
Through her candles, her lamps, and her past.

She’s not seeking eternity,
She’s not wanting infinity,
Despite the small sculpture in glass.

Her most cherished companion,
The one she holds dear,
Is her kind and compassionate cat.

But please note the chair,
To the far left of her stare,
Where she wished you’d have come and sat.
